Mount Rinjani Trekking Insurance
At Rudy Trekker, your safety and well-being are our highest priorities. Trekking Mount Rinjani is a physically demanding adventure in a remote, high-altitude volcanic environment. To ensure the safety of all hikers, the Mount Rinjani National Park authority (TNGR – Taman Nasional Gunung Rinjani) has implemented mandatory insurance policies for all registered trekkers.
Understanding your coverage is essential before you begin your ascent. Below is a detailed breakdown of the TNGR Basic and Premium insurance options, how they work, and what is required for your trek.
1. TNGR Basic Insurance (Included in the Entrance Ticket)
When you book any trekking package with Rudy Trekker, the cost of your National Park entrance fee and the Basic TNGR Insurance is automatically included. This insurance is tied directly to your registered e-ticket.
What it covers:
-
Minor Accidents: Basic medical treatment at local health clinics (Puskesmas) or regional hospitals in Lombok for injuries sustained on the designated trekking trails.
-
Standard Evacuation: On-foot evacuation assistance by local Search and Rescue (SAR) teams and park rangers to the nearest village clinic.
-
Accidental Death & Permanent Disability: A fixed financial compensation provided by the local insurance provider (usually Jasa Raharja or similar state providers) in the event of severe, life-altering accidents or death on the mountain.
Limitations:
The Basic Insurance provides fundamental local coverage but has strict financial limits. It does not cover specialized mountain rescue, extensive surgery, private hospital rooms, or international medical care.
2. TNGR Premium Insurance (Advanced Rescue & Evacuation)
For trekkers seeking higher security, TNGR and affiliated local rescue organizations offer a Premium Insuranceupgrade. Given the steep and rugged terrain of Mount Rinjani, we highly recommend considering this upgraded coverage, especially if you are undertaking the more challenging Summit or Torean routes.
What it covers (in addition to Basic benefits):
-
Advanced Search and Rescue (SAR): Immediate dispatch of specialized, fully equipped rapid response rescue teams.
-
Emergency Evacuation: Priority stretcher evacuation or, in extreme life-threatening cases where weather and terrain permit, helicopter evacuation from designated helipads on the mountain (e.g., Sembalun Crater Rim).
-
Expanded Medical Coverage: Higher financial limits for treatment at top-tier private hospitals in Mataram (such as Siloam Hospital or RSUD Provinsi), including necessary surgeries and specialized care for altitude sickness or severe trauma.
Note: You can request to upgrade to Premium Insurance when booking your package with the Rudy Trekker team. We will handle the administrative registration for you.
3. The Importance of Personal Travel Insurance
It is crucial to understand that neither the Basic nor the Premium TNGR insurance replaces comprehensive personal travel insurance. The local policies are strictly limited to accidents occurring within the national park boundaries during your registered trekking dates.
Rudy Trekker strongly mandates that all our guests purchase their own International Travel Insurance before arriving in Indonesia.
Your personal policy must explicitly cover:
-
High-altitude trekking up to 4,000 meters (Mount Rinjani’s summit is 3,726m).
-
Emergency helicopter rescue and international medical repatriation to your home country.
-
Trip cancellations, delays, and missed flight connections.
-
Lost, damaged, or stolen personal luggage and trekking equipment.
-
Illnesses not related to trekking accidents (e.g., food poisoning, tropical diseases, or general illness prior to the trek).
Providers such as World Nomads, Global Rescue, and Allianz typically offer specific adventure sports add-ons that perfectly cover the requirements for climbing Mount Rinjani.
